Social and Economic Impact Assessment at the Maradi-Katsina Border (Niger-Nigeria)

This study was developed to provide a socio-economic assessment of the Customs reform at the Niger/Nigeria border by carrying out the following activities: (i) assess the potential impacts of the reform of the Customs transit regime on businesses, truck drivers, trade auxiliaries, clearing and forwarding agents, warehousing and parking operators and staff of the border management agencies located at the border of Niger and Nigeria, (ii) estimate the potential loss of activity and identify affected businesses, and (iii) propose remedial measures to mitigate the impacts of the reform. The assignment had involved the collection of Focus Group Discussions both qualitative and the collection of quantitative data, including a thorough listing of all stakeholders involved in the new transit regime.
